अंजू पहले हिंदू थी, फिर अरविंद से शादी हो जाने के बाद ईसाई बनी और अब पाकिस्तान जाकर इस्लाम कबूल लिया।
भारत में हिन्दू, मुस्लिम और ईसाई तीनों रहते हैं। लेकिन अंजू के पाकिस्तान जाने और इस्लाम अपनाने का दुःख केवल हिन्दुओं को है। वह ईसाई से मुसलमान बनी है। इसपर ईसाई समाज की प्रतिक्रिया आनी चाहिए लेकिन वे कुछ नहीं बोल रहे। दूसरा, मुसलमान तो खुश है कि चाहे पाकिस्तान हो या हिंदुस्तान, उनकी संख्या बढ़ रही है। इसलिए वे भी नहीं बोल रहे।
इससे समझ आता है कि मुसलमान और ईसाई इस देश की भूमि, यहाँ की संस्कृति, यहाँ के लोगों के लिए वैसा सुख-दुःख अनुभव नहीं करते जैसा हिन्दू करते हैं।
ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि वे इस देश के केवल नागरिक हैं। राष्ट्रिय नहीं हैं। व्यक्ति जहाँ रहता है या काम करता है वह स्थान उसका देश हो सकता है लेकिन वहां रहते हुए भी वह जिस स्थान को अपनी पुण्यभूमि मानता है, उसपर से उसकी राष्ट्रीयता निश्चित होती है।
चूँकि मुसलमानों और ईसाईयों की पुण्यभूमि भारत नहीं है इसलिए उन्हें कोई फरक नहीं पड़ता कि अंजू पाकिस्तान चली जाये, मुसलमान बन जाये या कुछ भी।
Anju was initially a Hindu but after marrying Arvind, she converted to Christianity and later embraced Islam upon moving to Pakistan. In India, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians coexist, but the sadness of Anju’s journey to Pakistan and her conversion to Islam is felt primarily by Hindus. She transitioned from being a Christian to becoming a Muslim, yet the Christian community remains silent in response. Similarly, Muslims are content with their increasing population, whether in Pakistan or India, and thus do not express their views either.
This disparity indicates that Muslims and Christians may not experience the same emotional connection with this country’s land, culture, and its people as Hindus do. The reason lies in their national identity; they consider themselves citizens of the places they reside or work in but lack a sense of national belonging. For a person to feel a true sense of nationalism, they must consider a specific place as their sacred homeland.
Since Muslims and Christians do not view India as their sacred homeland, it does not matter to them whether Anju goes to Pakistan, converts to Islam, or does anything else.
