In the first T20 against Windies, when this Indian batsman got out, the momentum quickly shifted in favor of Windies.
Recently, the batsman who has been the most talked-about among fans on social media is Sanju Samson. However, it is evident that whenever he gets opportunities, he struggles to maintain consistency in his performances and falls behind in the race. Last Wednesday, he had a chance to win the match against Windies, but he got run-out at a crucial moment. Interestingly, every time Samson’s unnoticed performances occurred, and if any other player in the team failed, social media raised a strong voice in support of Sanju or criticized the BCCI and selectors.
Now, former opener Aakash Chopra has said that based on his performances in international matches so far, it is hard to determine Sanju Samson’s ideal batting order in T20. In the match against Windies, Samson scored only 12 runs off 12 balls. His run-out cost the team dearly as the match quickly turned in favor of Windies.
In a conversation with Jio Cinema, when asked about batting at number six for Hardik and Samson, they were also asked if Hardik can play one spot down. To this, Aakash said, “If you don’t play them here, then where will you play them? Personally, I don’t want to see Hardik batting at number six because I believe he should play at number five. Number five is good for him.”
Every player wants to bat at the higher order, and Samson’s T20 stats are not impressive in any position. Honestly speaking, he has been given limited opportunities, and he hasn’t received consistent chances. It is said that currently, Samson’s numbers or averages do not make him eligible to bat at number four. His average at different positions is 26, 16, 14, and 19, respectively. These averages have been recorded at different batting positions.
Clearly, this is not enough information to decide at which position he should be played. We cannot make a firm judgment on whether he should be played at number four. It should be noted that Samson has scored 114 runs at an average of 14.25 in eight innings at number four. He has not batted more than twice at any position. On Wednesday, he played at number six for the first time against Windies.
